Jodi Picoult And Samantha Van Leer Book Tour

Carmel Rosato, who handles EAFOL’s International Communications in the UK, shares some of adventuresOff-The-PageJodi Picoult is one of the most successful authors in the world today. Recently she was on a whistle-stop tour of the UK with her daughter Samantha van Leer, to promote their new teen fiction book, Off the Page. It’s the second book the duo have written together, and the sequel to Between the Lines. Samantha came up with the idea for plot when she was 13 years old, day-dreaming at school, and pitched it to her mother, who thought it was a brilliant idea. The new novel develops the story about a teenage book-worm discovering her fairytale prince in the pages of a book – then helping him step out of the page to join the real word. However, Prince Oliver finds that life in High School is certainly no fairy tale. During the entertaining session for The Times newspaper readers, Jodi and Samantha chatted about their writing process. Samantha is now studying psychology at college so the pair wrote the sequel in Samantha’s summer holiday, speaking the book out loud between them, often so in tune with each other that they came up with the same lines and scenarios. Samantha read excerpts from the book, as did ‘Prince Oliver’, an actor who came on the tour with them to bring the romantic hero to life. It’s a perfect summer read for the young adult audience (and the not so young!), who will enjoy a quirky story about love, romance and relationships.
