EAFOL16 Blog – Poetic Bravehearts!

Official EAFOL16 blogger Asma Merchant spends the morning among poets, new and experienced Education Day is a very important aspect of the Festival which involves schools from across the UAE. The Education Day team works tirelessly throughout the year to get authors to schools or students to the festival and it is a leviathan task that definitely needs to be commended. While most of the Education day events happen at schools, a few happen at the festival venue. This year one of the events, Poetry Live, took place at the beautiful Al Mamzar Cultural & Scientific Association. With 600+ students from various schools across the UAE, the theatre was buzzing with poetry enthusiasts. Carol Ann Duffy, Simon Armitage and Imtiaz Dharker gave us a flavor of their brand of poetry, each significantly different from another. As Simon Armitage succinctly put, 'Poetry is a brave art' and I loved spending my morning with these bravehearts. There were also two segments by Tony Childs and Peter Buckroyd who are examiners. They gave pointers to the students about answering questions about Poetry in their exam papers There is still time to sign up for the poetry session happening in the coming days!
